Training: Polarized Theatre of the Oppressed with Dr. Chen Alon

  • Park Avenue Methodist Church 3400 Park Avenue Minneapolis, MN, 55407 United States (map)

zAmya Theater Project and Equalhealth’s Campaign Against Racism (CAR) - Twin Cities Chapter invite you to join us for a 3-day training, May 8-10, in Polarized Theatre of the Oppressed with Dr. Chen Alon, Israeli activist, scholar, and co-founder of Combatants for Peace.

What if polarization could be a starting point rather than an endpoint? In this Theatre of the Oppressed workshop, Dr. Chen Alon guides participants to work directly with division—reshaping conflict into trust, alliance, and the possibility of shared struggle. Through embodied practices, participants will learn to playfully transform different perspectives into collective action. Dr. Alon will be joining the training online via Zoom, while zAmya staff help facilitate in person.

Registration is limited to 50 participants! To learn more and reserve your spot, visit https://ChenAlon_PolarizedTO.eventbrite.com

Dr. Chen Alon is a theatre activist, actor and director, who wrote his Ph.D. on the Palestinian-Israeli Polarized Model of Theatre of the Oppressed. As a Major (res.) in the Israeli army he co-founded “Courage to Refuse”, a movement of officers and combatant soldiers who refuse to serve in the occupied Palestinian territories, an action for which he was sentenced to prison. Chen is also a co-founder of “Combatants for Peace” (CfP), a movement of Palestinian and Israeli combatants who have abandoned the way of violence and struggle together non-violently against the occupation. Chen was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize with CfP co-founder Suleiman Khatib (2017-2018). He is currently the head of the Community Theatre and Artivism (Art & Activism) Program in the Theatre Arts Department at Tel-Aviv University.
