What’s a creative expression session?

Creative Expression Sessions are a fun space for folks looking to learn about performance, working together, and creative play. 

People who’ve experienced housing instability are especially encouraged to attend. We provide coffee, snacks and bus tokens (while supplies last).

This long running residency is a project of Hennepin County Library at the Minneapolis Central Library and is funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

2024 Schedule 

Workshops take place seasonally on Tuesdays from 8:30-10:30am at the Downtown Minneapolis Central Library (1st floor Commons area) at 300 Nicollet Mall.

Fall workshops will be in session October 1 - December 17, with a final performance (and zAmya’s 20th Anniversary celebration!) on Sat, Dec. 14 at 2pm. Details are below.

Shareformance

At the end of each session, workshop participants have the option to participate in a Shareformance demonstrating their work over the course of the residency. These performances are always free and open to the public.

This December 14th, Zamya Theater Project celebrates its 20th year with a blast from the past!

Join our retrospect of scenes from some of Zamya's Greatest Hits! Take a  walk through the past 20 years of shows, created and performed by so many! Thanks to those who have shared their stories, their talents, and their hearts.

2:00-3:30pm: The performance takes place in Pohlad Auditorium on the library’s second floor. Tickets are free and do not need to be reserved ahead of time; the box office will open at 1:30pm. This show includes ASL interpretation. As a thank-you and to support audience members bringing the lived experience of homelessness, we’ll have $10 Target gift cards to give out after the show (while supplies last).

3:30-4:45pm: We’ll celebrate after the show with cake and lemonade in the Doty Board Room! Meet old and new zAmya friends, and help us mark 20 years of changing the narrative on homelessness. Hope to see you there!
