What’s a creative expression session?

Creative Expression Sessions are a fun space for folks looking to learn about performance, working together, and creative play.

People who’ve experienced housing instability are especially encouraged to attend. We provide coffee, snacks and bus tokens (while supplies last).

This long running residency is a project of Hennepin County Library at the Minneapolis Central Library and is funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

2024 Schedule

The 2024 Summer workshops will be in session May 21 - August 13 (no session July 2)

The 2024 Fall workshops will be in session October 1 - December 17

Workshops take place on Tuesdays from 8:30-10:30am at the Downtown Minneapolis Central Library (1st floor Commons area) at 300 Nicollet Mall.

Each workshop series culminates in a Shareformance, or sharing/performance. See below for more information about the current session’s Shareformance.

Shareformance

At the end of each session, workshop participants have the option to participate in a Shareformance demonstrating their work over the course of the residency. These performances are free and open to the public.

This year, our summer Shareformance will be presented on Saturday, August 10th, 12:30pm as part of the Downtown Minneapolis Street Art Festival, a free 2-day event featuring chalk and spray art, murals, performance, craft, food and fun! The festival takes place annually on Nicollet Mall in the heart of downtown Minneapolis.

Any participants in the Tuesday workshops are welcome to join in the Shareformance. Rehearsals will take place Wednesday and Friday afternoons starting in late July (subject to change). As a thank-you and to support those bringing the lived experience of homelessness, we offer $10 gift cards for participation in each rehearsal, while supplies last.
